Lockdown enabled me to watch some of the series movies from Amazon Prime and Hotstar. I see a growing trend of exclusive series by online (including app driven) platforms like Amazon, Hotstar, MX Player, Zee5)

Before lockdown, I saw a series by A R Rahman. I loved that. Then I saw Queen (a biopic) of Late Selvi Jayalalithaa. It was pleasure to watch that. During lockdown, I got to see some multilingual series like Special Ops on Hotstar and two others on Amazon.

The production, story, direction, photography are excellant. After a long time, I have seen such great acting and direction.

I noticed that some of these series have

  1. Crass language
  2. Abusive language
  3. Explicit exihibition of sex (adult, child, gay)
  4. Display of we extreme cruelity

I may personally find it objectionable but does that matter today. The exposure is there in world wide web. I guess it is going to be more difficult to monitor and control these things in the age of internet.

I guess parents and educators have to play a key role. I think one the key skill every child has be taught is “discernment”.

Discernment is the ability to obtain sharp perceptions or to judge well. There is a need for everyone to know that there is a difference between getting drowned by data. Discernment as ability will enable them to swim with information.

Building this ability will require building Values in the family and cold at early stage of life.
