Employ-ability

Though this article is written more from US perspective, I thought of sharing some of my perspective from Indian job scenario point of view.

Generation jobless

Authoritative weekly newspaper focusing on international politics and business news and opinion.

My personal experience with the interviews that I conduct. I am on recruitment panel for some of the company. I do happen to see the youth who are freshers to some experience. I have few observations to make. I try my best to explain to these young job seekers. I am not sure what mechanism one can take to resolve this.:

A lot of people in open domain have spoken about "

employ-ability

" as a factor. There are lot of initiatives that are being taken by certain bodies / organisations. In fact that has become a new business. I believe that

employ-ability

as being referred by many is equivalent to "Ready to Eat" type employees. I am sure we all would agree that most of us (at least myself ) were not ready to eat types.

I also see many of the unemployment is also a case of not wanting to certain type of job. I have come across many MBA in HRs from tier 2 & 3 institutes, who want a job in HR department but they do not want to do hiring, payroll. It is important to understand that for every LARGE organisations there are 100\'s of small organisation who also need this

functions.

I think one element in the education system particularly from graduation onward is missing totally. Career Counselling and understanding career paths is becoming necessity today. A job seeker at early stage is open to so many options that he is also confused. Most institutions have placement cells, but they operate more like sale and marketing arm. I believe that the role of Placement Cell need to be strengthened and should include career counselling.
