Guru Parihara Sthalam – Sri Vashisteshwar Temple

July 2015 saw a transitional period from Guru from one house to another. While some panchangam (almanac) said that as 5th of July and other as 14th of July, we decided to visit this temple on a week end. For this special occasion, temple was organizing homams and lakscharchanai. We went there on the weekend before this important day.

This is a temple near Thankjavur. It would come on the way to Garbharakhsambikkai Temple from Thanjavur. This temple is one of the Guru Sthalam (Temples dedicated to Guru Graha, also known Vruhaspati). There several temple associated with Guru. Some of them are Apatsahayesvarar Temple at Alangudi, Ramanatheswarar Temple at Porur – Chennai.

The presiding deity of this temple is Sri Vashisteshwarar, named after the Maharishi who established this temple.

This temple is known for

Worship for removing doshas related to Guru

A drop of water falls on the Shiva linga every 24 minutes from the ceiling. This is because of a very special stone called Chandrakanth kept on the roof. This stone absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and converts into a drop of water
